FAQs

+ What should I expect from my first session?

Your first session is a chance for your psychologist to get to know you, as well as for you to get a feel for whether your psychologist is the right fit for you. The session will start with going through any relevany paperwork. Your psychologist will then start to ask about your reasons for speaking with them, and begin to get to know you at your own pace. Towards the end of the session, your psychologist will discuss your goals for therapy and suggest a plan for moving forward.

+ How long does each session go for?

Each session will run for approximately 50 minutes.

+ How many sessions will I need to come in for?

At Your Space, we are committed to providing therapy to suit each of our client's individual needs. The number of sessions that you require will depend on the individual and is something that is generally discussed throughout therapy. While some people will come to therapy for three to four sessions, others will see their therapist for months or years.

Your psychologist will always check in with you about how your sessions are going and whether you feel the need to continue.

+ Will I receive a rebate through Medicare or my private health fund?

If you have a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP you will be eligble to receive a Medicare rebate of $136.35 per individual session for up to 10 sessions per calendar year.

If you have private health insurance you may be eligible for a partial rebate. Please check with your insurance provider for further information.

+ Do I need a referral to see a psychologist?

No, you do not need a referral to make an appointment with one of our psychologists. However, without a referral you will not receive a rebate through Medicare. You are still able to claim through private health insurance.
